Late 2012 is when the analogue tv channels (which are on channel 69) get turned off and we all have to watch digital tv - called the Digital Switch Over or DSO. Great for tv but rather bad for the sound reinforcement business as it means all our radio mics and IEMs will be un useable. They delayed the DSO because they realised the Olympics would be rather buggered if all the radio mics had to be replaced. They’re expensive.. Here at SL Audio we’ve started replacing the radio mics with new ones which work on channel 38 which is where we’re being bumped to. We’re diving in ahead of the pace because we think trying to deal with the situation in 2012 will be a bit of a problem - they’re likely to be in short supply and probably a bit more expensive than usual.  We’re still going to have radio mics which work after they switch off channel 69. We’re all going to be able to use our existing mics on the deregulated channel 70 but we’re expecting everyone and their uncle will be doing this so there’ll be a lot of congestion and plenty of interference. So we bought some which will work now and past 2012.
